Google algorithm are a complex system used to retrieve data from its search index and instantly deliver the best possible results for a query. The search engine uses a combination of algorithm and numerous ranking factors to deliver webpages ranked by relevance on its search engine results pages (SERPs).

In its early year google only made a handful of updates to its algorithms. Now Google makes changes every year.

  

1. Google Panda update

    Google panda was a major algorithm updates that impacted search ranking for 11.8% of queries in           the us' panda was designed to reduce the ranking for low quality sites and reward better ranking            to high quality sites.

    The algorithm officially started rolling out on 2011.

    

2. Google penguin update

     The google penguin update was launched in 2012 and named the 'webspam algorithm update'. It             was created by google to help reduce the number of sites appearing in serps that were using black           hat SEO techniques to manipulate results with link scheme. It is also part of google care algorithm.

     The penguin updates works by crawling backlinks and website and assigning each backlinks a                 score.

    

3. Google hummingbird update

   The google hummingbird update was put in the year 2013.humming bird  is not a penalty based             update but a change in the way google reacts to different types of enquiry. The use of keyword               synonymous has been optimized with hummingbird instead of listing results with exact phrases or          keyword' google now shows more related results.

4. Google pigeon update

   

    Googles pigeon update was specifically designed to provide users with relevant query results close        to home .pigeon was specially loved by local business with good sec practice.

    Its the first time google made it so that local search really had the opportunity to shine and ranking          higher than  the other non local competition.

5.Google Mobilegeddon update

   

  Mobilegeddon is an updated version on the year 2015. The main effect of this update was to give            priority to websites that display well on smartphones and other mobile devices. This update does not      effect the browsing from laptop or desktop.
